Color Run

Inside of each person and each family is a story in the making. It doesn’t end, it just weaves through our lives and is carried forward by the next generation. Our family, like your family, have stories to be told, and much of the time, our stories become public, mostly by our own choice. We believe that sharing the stories of our lives helps others feel comfortable in sharing their own stories, or at least that is our hope. We are all in this world together, and it is up to us to make it the best world possible.

It was with a very heavy heart that we shared the death of our granddaughter, Hannah Crist, age 15, September 13, 2013. Not a day goes by that we don’t think of her, and the tears still come easily, but life has a way of pushing us to continue living. We live for ourselves, for our loved ones who remain and who have passed away before us, and we live for our community, to make it brighter and better because of the love we have for others.

Team of Mercy is an organization that assists survivors in the critical 24 hour period following an attempted or completed suicide. The organization provides families with any necessary bio-hazardous cleaning services at the scene, and offer support to those left behind in their time of need by other survivors of suicide.

On May 31, 2014, Team of Mercy held “Surviving The Color”, a 5K run/walk. This year the event was held in memory of Hannah and the other seven families that lost a loved one in the past 12 months. Our family joined approximately six hundred others at Ohio and Brown for the journey into and around Deming Park. Powdered paint was squirted, thrown, and dowsed onto our clothes, hair, faces and any and all other body parts!  While that may sound absolutely terrible, it was fun, a great way to raise money for a good organization and gave us another way to celebrate those we have loved and lost.
